About the Team

The GHS Georgettes dance team is open to 10th-12th graders by audition. The team is led by Georgettes Director Phaedra Walker and Assistant Director Lauren Johnson. Veteran team members may apply to serve in leadership roles as line officers or social officers. The Georgettes practice and perform in a wide range of dance styles: dance/drill team, lyrical, hip hop, jazz, and more.

The Georgettes are selected in the spring of each year for the following school year’s team.   In the fall semester, the team performs at all football games and pep rallies as well as in the annual GHS Fine Arts Department’s “Holiday to Remember” show in December. Each spring, the Georgettes travel and compete in one or more dance competitions, and the annual Spring Show in the GHS Klett Performing Arts Center caps the year with solo, squad, and team dances as well as recognition of the year’s graduating seniors. Other performance opportunities may arise throughout the year, including parade appearances, festival performances, etc.

Summer dance camp and morning/afternoon practices during the school year are required for all Georgettes, as well as one class period for the year (two class periods for line officers). Students may receive a PE or Fine Arts Credit for this course.
